Baking Macarons pt.1.

Heyhey.

This years christmas gift for the family from Mel, is MACARONS! After hearing how fiddly they are, Mel decided that several test runs were in order partly because she’s a perfectionist and wants these to look absolutely stunning. This is the second time she’s made them but for simplicity sake, we’ll say part one. ;)
Nessa is still at school, last day at school for her and she has an violin exam today as well so it’s Mel and Karl at home today.

Almonds

What’s the most important ingredient of making macarons? ALMONDS!

Sifting
What’s the most important thing about the almonds? That they are really really fine! Mel being a kitchen machine.

Kitchen bench

Mel making a mess on the kitchen bench. Well, the kitchen bench is always a mess but now even more so.

Almond + icing sugar + cocoa

The sifted dry ingredients.

Icing + cocoa + Almond + egg whites

What the mixture should look like after you add the dry ingredients to the egg whites that should be in the medium peak stage.

lolololol In order to get the ‘perfect’ circle I insert a template printed off from the internet.

Piping!

Piping freak out ensues.

After piping leaving them for a few mins before putting them in the oven creates a soft harden shell to make it slightly cripsy!

After cooking! Is that feet I see?!

Ohno! Someone ate one!

….It totally wasn’t Mel. Nope, not her at all.

Removing the cool down macarons ready to sandwich.

Mmmmmmm yum. <3 The Ganache aka what you stick in the middle.

Feet!

FEET! FEET! FEET! THEY HAVE FEET!

<3

A whole plate full of macarons. Not too bad for a days work!
Next thing to work on – developing mad piping skills so that the top is nice and smooth.

Mmmmmmm yum. <3 I think, I need to eat a few more, have a cup of tea and then go have a run to burn of all those yummy calories!

xo Mel.
